Wild Goose Pagoda

Spend the day at the Terracotta Warriors, one of the world's most important archaeological discoveries, where troops, horses and chariots stand in battle formation. Visit a local artisan family in their cave dwelling and learn to make miniature warriors, then return to central Xi'an for the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the North Plaza fountain show. An optional Tang Dynasty Show is also available.

Set out on a relaxed walking tour of old Xi'an. Begin at Bell tower, the center of the ancient city and described here as China's largest and best-preserved bell tower. Walk through Kaitong Lane at the foot of the former east wall, passing Shuyuanmen, a leading academy during the Ming and Qing dynasties and one of China's four celebrated colleges. Stop in Shuncheng Alley for coffee at a local bar beside the wall, then visit Xian Han Guang Entrance Remains Museum, presented as a gateway to Chinese history and the starting point of the Silk Road. Continue onto the Ancient City Wall, one of China's oldest and best-preserved city walls and among the world's largest ancient military defense systems. Walk on to De Fu Alley, where the old city meets modern development. After lunch, explore the Muslim Quarter, where shops and restaurants are run by Muslims and local snacks are available. Finish inside Gaos' Courtyard with a traditional Shadow Puppet performance.
