China Silk Road planning
Choose the route direction and western endpoint first
China Silk Road tours cover a long east–west geography rather than one compact attraction cluster. Xi'an provides an eastern historical frame, the Gansu corridor connects cities such as Zhangye and Dunhuang, and Xinjiang extensions can continue through Turpan, Urumqi or Kashgar. The practical first decision is how far west to travel and whether the return uses rail, flights or an open-jaw gateway.
Desert heat, cold nights, long distances, timed heritage visits and regional transport all affect pace. A good itinerary protects the major sites and gives oasis cities a real role instead of treating them as repeated hotel stops. Current entry, document, transport and local operating arrangements must be checked for the actual travelers and dates without relying on an old route description.
What this collection helps you compare
Direction is explicit
The route states where the journey starts, its western endpoint and how the traveler leaves the region.
Distances are not hidden
Rail, flights, station access and road transfers are shown as travel days or partial days.
Every oasis has a role
Zhangye, Dunhuang, Turpan or Kashgar is included for a distinct landscape or historical reason.
Current arrangements checked
Tickets, transport, traveler documents and regional operations are verified for the requested dates.

- Xi'an · Gansu corridor · Xinjiang oasis cities · Kashgar
- Best for

14 days
Classic China Silk Road
- Route
- Xi'an · Zhangye · Dunhuang · Turpan · Urumqi · Kashgar
- Best for
- Travelers seeking a broad westbound route at an active but legible pace.
- Why choose it
- Reaches both Gansu and western Xinjiang, requiring careful flight or rail planning at the end.
How to choose
You have about twelve days
Finish around Urumqi after a focused Gansu corridor and Turpan route.
You see less of western Xinjiang but reduce distance and the number of long connections.
Kashgar is essential
Allow fourteen to sixteen days and use an open-jaw or flight plan.
The far-western endpoint adds major distance, transport cost and a different departure gateway.
Dunhuang is the main priority
Build a shorter Gansu corridor route and protect timed heritage visits.
The trip will not cover the full popular image of the Silk Road across Xinjiang.
Timing and transport
Recommended duration
12–16 days according to western endpoint
The route becomes substantially longer when Kashgar and several Xinjiang oases are included.
Season planning
Compare heat, cold and daylight by stop
Conditions vary across the corridor and desert regions; a single Silk Road average is not enough.
Transport rhythm
Combine rail, flights and regional drives
The fastest segment is not always the best route; station, airport and hotel access still consume usable time.
What changes the price?
- Western endpoint and total route length
- Domestic flights or rail class
- Private guide and vehicle coverage by region
- Hotel availability and exact location
- Timed tickets, party size and current regional arrangements
How YunSky checks the plan
YunSky makes the Silk Road route legible from east to west and checks dated transport and traveler arrangements before finalizing the western sectors.
- Route purpose: The preferred historical focus and western endpoint determine which corridor and oasis cities belong.
- Usable time: Long rail, flight and road transitions are counted before daily sightseeing is assigned.
- Date-specific checks: Transport, tickets, traveler documents, local services and current regional operations are reconfirmed.
- Written trip scope: Guides, vehicles, hotels, rail or flights, admissions and traveler responsibilities are shown by segment.
