Diqing Shangri-la Airport (IATA code: DIG, ICAO code: ZPDQ) is a civilian airport located in Shangri-la at southwestern Yunnan Province, China. It was finished construction at 1999 and was put into service. The airport covers an area of 2543 acres. The grade of the flight zone is 4D and the runway is 3600 meters long, Tarmac covers an area of 23,400 square meters. There are 4 aircraft stands. And the terminal area is of 3,073 square meters.

Brief Introduction of Diqing Shangri-la Airport

Shangri-La Airport covers an area of 225 hectares. Diqing is located at the plateau region with beautiful natural scenery. Diqing is a Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The airport was first constructed in 1997 and was opened for navigation on April 30, 1999. Diqing Airport is about 5 km away from the Zhongdian County. The grade of the flight zone is 4D. The altitude of its is 3280.83 meters. It has opened Zhongdian to Kunming, Chengdu, Lhasa flights.

There are flights from Kunming to Shangri-la everyday and takes only 55 mins. In addition, there are flights to Chengdu, flying for two half-hour. There are also roundtrip flights to Lhasa airport, taking just 1 hour and 40 minutes to get there.

In September, 2005, to protect Guangzhou – Diqing – Lhasa route, China Southern Airlines added the new type – B6200, Airbus A31. As the airport is a high altitude airport (elevation 3280 m), it has always been very particular on requirments of the aircraft types. Only a few aircrafts types are suitable for flying this route. A319 Airbus aircraft is the world's most advanced, the safest and the most comfortable aircraft with 128 seats, including eight first class seats. The oxygen systems of A319 has been this modified for high altitude flight.
