The railway extend between Chengdu and Lhasa is about 3360 kilometers.

►Train from Chengdu to Lhasa
Train from Chengdu to Lhasa departs from Chengdu Railway Station to Lhasa Railway Station. There is only one train traveling from Chengdu to Lhasa. That is T22/T23. It departs at 20:45 in the first day and then arrive at 15:40 in the third day. The running hours is about 42 hours and 55 minutes. (Update on November 7, 2014)

Note: The train from Chengdu to Lhasa is not available daily. It departs on even days in some months and then on odd days in other months. ►Train from Lhasa to Chengdu

Train from Lhasa to Chengdu departs from Lhasa Railway Station and arrive at Chengdu Railway Station.  T24/T21 is the only train that travels from Lhasa to CHengdu. It departs at 10:00 am in the first day from Lhasa and then arrive at 08:17 am in the third day in Chengdu. The running hours is 46 hours and 13 minutes. (Update on November 7, 2014).

►Notes for Booking Train Tickets

 

1. Passengets can book a train ticket 10 days in advance at most. As the train ticket from Chengdu to Lhasa is quite hot, it is highly recommended to book in advance. Above train schedule are just for your reference, while they may change over time, you need to check them again. There are four ways for visitors to buy train ticket: at the Railway Station, by online ticket booking system, by Telephone and booking through travel agencies. 2. Generally, the seats on the train in China have tow types including soft seat and hard seat. Also, there are tow kinds of sleeper seats on China's trains which are hard sleeper seat and soft sleeper seat. Hard sleeper seats are divided into upper hard sleeper, middle hard sleeper and lower hard sleeper (lower hard sleeper is the best); while soft sleeper seats are divided into upper soft sleeper and lower soft sleeper (lower soft sleeper is better).

3. In China, taking a train is a comparative cheaper way to cut down the travel cost. While correspondingly, the comfortable level is lower than by air.
Luggage: you need to take the luggages by yourself and keep an eye of them on transporting time, no luggage-checking service on the train.
 

The best time to visit Lhasa is in summer and autumn, especially from August to October. Summer and autumn are the most comfortable time in Lhasa; from March to October, the climate becomes mild and humid and is the best season for travel in Tibet.
