Tourism festivals in China can turn a normal city stay into a season-specific experience, but they also change hotel demand, transport conditions and access to popular venues. The four events below represent very different trips: winter ice art in Harbin, a citywide cultural program in Shanghai, island events in Hainan and mountain-focused activities around Huangshan. Programs and dates are edition-specific, so use this page to choose the right season, then confirm the current year with the organizer or local government before booking.

Place: Harbin, Heilongjiang
Usual season: Mid-winter; opening and closing depend on the annual program and weather.
Harbin's winter season spreads across several venues rather than one single “festival gate.” Ice and Snow World is known for illuminated ice architecture, while Sun Island commonly focuses on snow sculpture and other city events add competitions and performances. Severe cold affects batteries, walking comfort and transfer times, so use insulated footwear, protect exposed skin and schedule warm indoor breaks. Review the wider Harbin attractions before allocating your days. The Harbin Ice and Snow Festival itinerary shows how to combine the main venues without assuming they share identical hours.

Place: Shanghai
Usual season: The annual program may span more than one period; verify the edition you intend to attend.
The Shanghai Tourism Festival is a citywide program rather than a single fairground. Depending on the year, it can include parades, cultural events, themed routes and activities across different districts. Choose the events first, then select accommodation near the relevant metro line; a headline date does not mean every activity runs throughout the full festival period.

Place: Hainan Province
Usual season: Announced annually and not fixed permanently.
The Hainan International Tourism Island Carnival uses multiple host locations and can combine performances, leisure activities and destination promotion. Hainan's north, central highlands and Sanya coast offer different weather and travel experiences, so check the actual venue rather than booking only by province name.
A festival visit can be paired with beaches, rainforest and local culture, but transfers between Haikou, central Hainan and Sanya take planning. The Haikou and Sanya route provides a practical north-to-south framework; add an announced event only after confirming its city and date.

Place: Huangshan City and the Mount Huangshan area, Anhui
Timing: Confirm the current program with local authorities.
Tourism events around Huangshan may connect mountain scenery with Huizhou heritage, local crafts and regional promotion. The summit area and historic villages require separate transfers, and mountain weather can change quickly even during an event period. Reserve the mountain ticket and transport according to current rules, carry a flexible layer and allow time for cloud or rain. A four-day Huangshan itinerary leaves room for both the mountain and surrounding heritage rather than compressing everything into an event day.
