China Trip Cost from India: A Practical 2026 Budget

The cost of a China trip from India is not one universal number: departure city, travel month, passport and visa situation, route, room sharing, rail or air choices and booking flexibility all change the result. Use Chinese yuan (CNY) as the working currency, because most trip expenses are charged locally, then convert the final total at the current rate offered by your bank or card. A sound budget separates seven lines: India–China transport, domestic transport, accommodation, meals, admissions and activities, local transfers, and contingency. For daily planning, a solo traveler should allow more for rooms and transfers; two people sharing a room may use about CNY 550–850 per person per day for an economy plan, CNY 900–1,500 for a comfortable plan, or CNY 1,800 and above for premium hotels and private services. Taxi meters, starting fares, surcharges and airport tolls vary by city. Ask the hotel to estimate a specific route, use the official queue, keep the destination in Chinese and confirm that the meter is running where required. Never build a national budget from one city's old per-kilometer figure.

Airport trips and late-night rides can cost much more than short central journeys. Price those transfers individually and keep a transport contingency rather than assuming every ride fits the daily allowance.

Hotel labels and star ratings do not create a reliable nationwide rate. Search the exact city, district and date, then confirm that the property can register international guests, that taxes are included and that the room has the bed configuration, breakfast, lift access and cancellation terms required. Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and holiday destinations can exceed these bands, while outer districts may cost less but require longer daily travel. Divide a shared room by the actual number of paying travelers only after confirming occupancy rules.

Attraction tickets range from free public spaces to timed heritage and scenic-area products. Build the budget from the official booking page for each priority sight, including required shuttle, cableway or reservation fees. Cableways, scenic buses and optional experiences may be charged separately. Decide which component is essential before payment and check accessibility, height or age rules for the traveler concerned.

A private guide is priced by city, language, duration, group size and inclusions. Request a written quote stating admission, transport, meals, gratuities and overtime rather than using a generic daily figure.

Shows and cruises use different seat categories and schedules. Verify the current official program, venue, refund conditions and transport back to the hotel; do not buy an expensive front seat merely because an old article called it best.
