Begin at Tian'anmen Square, then walk into the Forbidden City for more than two hours among its palace halls, gardens and collections. Have an à la carte Chinese lunch at a local restaurant before the afternoon program.

Visit the Temple of Heaven, Beijing's historic ceremonial complex, then walk for about 30 minutes through a quieter Hutong. Visit a local family and learn Facial Makeup Painting for Beijing Opera.

Return to the hotel after sightseeing. Your guide can provide information about optional Beijing evening performances.

Good to know:
1. Besides facial-makeup painting, optional Hutong activities can include Chinese calligraphy and painting, Chinese knotting or paper-cutting, a Chinese yo-yo demonstration, or making dumplings or kites with a local family.

2. Besides exploring the Hutong on foot, your family can also choose a bicycle or rickshaw. Tell the travel planner which option best suits you.

Leave the hotel in the morning and drive about two hours to Mutianyu Great Wall. The itinerary includes the cable car and slideway, allowing more time on this restored section of the wall.

Have an à la carte lunch near Mutianyu. On the drive back to Beijing, stop outside the Bird Nest and Water Cube, two prominent venues built for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Return to the hotel. Ask your guide for suggestions about Peking Roast Duck Restaurant.

Good to know:
1. Mutianyu Great Wall generally has fewer crowds than some other restored sections. Depending on weather and preference, use the cable car both ways or combine the ascent with the slideway descent.

2. If your family would like more time on the wall, a picnic lunch can be arranged when requested at the time of booking.

3. In summer, swimming in the Water Cube can be considered as an optional family activity.

Mutianyu Great Wall

Check out and visit the Summer Palace, Beijing's largest surviving imperial garden. See Longevity Hill, Kunming Lake and the Long Corridor, with a boat ride available during the visit.

Have an à la carte lunch, then fly to Chengdu in the afternoon. Meet the local guide at the airport, transfer to the hotel and keep the remainder of the day free.

Sichuan Opera

Leave the hotel early for the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding , about 10 km from central Chengdu. The landscaped grounds house around 80 giant pandas as well as red pandas, black-necked cranes, white cranes and other animals.

Morning is the recommended time for the panda base, when the animals are generally most active. Arrive before 09:00 am for the feeding period at around 09:30 am, then visit the Panda Museum and watch the 20-minute presentation at Panda Theatre. Continue along the viewing paths, with the option to send a postcard from Panda Post, whose dedicated postcode is 610088.

Have the scheduled traditional Hotpot lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, drive about 1.5 hours to Mt. Leshan . Walk on the mountain for closer views of the Giant Buddha, or choose the optional approximately 30-minute cruise for a complete river perspective.

Good to know:
If your family does not prefer hotpot, share your flavor preferences in advance so other popular Chinese dishes can be arranged instead.

Leisure Giant Panda

Visit the Sichuan Cuisine Museum. Learn about the history and preparation of Sichuan food, then have a class in cooking a dish that becomes today's lunch.

In the afternoon, walk through Jinli Ancient Street to see its Qing-style streets, then continue to People's Park, where residents sing, dance or play cards and chess. Sit down for tea in a local teahouse.

Good to know:
Sichuan Opera is an optional evening activity known for its face-changing performance. Ask in advance if you would like it arranged.

Chengdu life

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Hotel: In Guilin

After breakfast, check out and fly to Guilin. Meet the local guide on arrival and visit Reed Flute Cave en route from the airport. Walk for 0.5-1 hour around Fir Lake and Banyan Lake, then check in at the nearby hotel. The scheduled dinner in Jolie Vue Boutique Hotel provides a view toward Elephant Trunk Hill.

Reed Flute Cave

Transfer to Zhujiang Pier for the approximately four-hour Li River Cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo. After disembarking, walk along West Street before the afternoon activity.

In the afternoon, visit a local farm family in Gaotian Village and take part in the scheduled activity: farm in the land . Depending on the season, the work may include ploughing, sowing, planting or harvesting.

Return to the Guilin hotel after the farming activity.

Good to know:
Families who prefer another activity can choose bike-riding in countryside area, painting class or a Taichiquan course with a local instructor.

The optional Impression Liusanjie is available in Yangshuo; ask your guide in advance if you would like it arranged.

Li River Cruise

After a relaxed morning, meet your guide at the hotel and transfer to Guilin North Station for the approximately 3.2-hour high-speed train to Hong Kong. Meet the local guide at West Kowloon Station, transfer to the hotel and keep the remainder of the day free.

Good to know:
An optional visit to Daxu Ancient Town can be added in the morning to see its cobbled lanes, Wanshou Bridge, historic buildings and Ming-era docks. A walk beside the Li River provides a quieter look at local life before leaving Guilin.
