8-Day Tibet Group Tour to Everest Base Camp

Travel to Lhasa by domestic flight or train. Meet the local guide at the railway station or airport with a Tashi Delek greeting, then take the shared shuttle bus with driver-only service to the reserved hotel. Rest during the afternoon to begin adjusting to the high altitude.

Note: The free airport transfer from airport to hotel and fixed departure time: 10:00, 13:30, 16:00, 18:30.

Good to know: First-time visitors arriving in Tibet by air or train should rest well to support acclimatization in Lhasa. Avoid rushing into independent sightseeing, walk slowly and do not run or jump. Tell your guide promptly if you feel unwell so assistance can be arranged.

Barkhor Street

After breakfast, begin at Drepung Monastery, known for high standards of monastic study and traditionally called the Nalanda of Tibet in reference to India's historic Buddhist university.

In the afternoon, drive to Sera Monastery, one of Tibet's Great Three Gelug monasteries. Monastic debates may be seen in the courtyard at around 3:00-5:30 in the afternoon. Established in 1419, the monastery has long served as an important Buddhist seminary. Return to the hotel after the visit.
 

In the evening, join the guide and group for a welcome dinner at a traditional Tibetan restaurant, marking the beginning of the journey.

Sera Monastery

Meet your experienced local guide at the hotel in the morning and begin the Lhasa city tour at  Potala Palace . Explore the palace's grand chapels and learn why Tibetans regard it as one of the defining achievements of their cultural heritage.

In the afternoon, visit  Jokhang Monastery, regarded as the center of Tibetan Buddhism and a sacred destination for pilgrims. Continue around Barkor Kora, a lively market area where traditional and religious goods are sold and local worshippers follow the circuit around Jokhang Temple. Finish with a Tibetan teahouse visit for an introduction to local social culture.

Good to know: Taking photos is forbidden in the monastery. If you want to take photos of Tibetan pilgrims, a gentle ask for permission would be appreciated. Swimming and fishing are not allowed in holy lakes in Tibet; Do not talk about sensitive topics like politics; International tourists are not allowed to travel alone in Tibet according to the policy; Walk clockwise around Barkhor Street; Never venture into the unknown trails. If you are uncertain about something, it's advisable to ask your guide before you do it at will.

Patala Palace

Drive approximately 7 to 8 hours (340 kilometers) to Shigatse, stopping at Yamdrok Lake and the Karola Glacier. Follow the lakeshore for a scenic 20-kilometer section, then visit a lakeside village to enter a local farmhouse and share the scheduled farmhouse lunch.
 

After lunch, drive for approximately 1 hour to the Karola Glacier, where a broad tongue of ice descends close to the roadside like a frozen waterfall.
 

Continue past Lake Manla and the historic town of Gyantse before arriving in Shigatse, Tibet's second-largest city.

Yamdrok Lake

After breakfast, begin the 6.5-hour drive (330 kilometers) toward Mount Everest. Stop at several viewpoints along the route before reaching Everest Base Camp (EBC). for the overnight stay.
 

Leaving Shigatse, travel through farmland and rural villages. After approximately 4 hours, approach Dingri County for the first view of Everest from Dingri Viewpoint. Inside the Everest scenic area, Gawula Pass provides a panorama of the Himalayan range, including peaks rising from 7000 to 8000 meters above the sea of clouds.

Continue along the dedicated Everest road as the mountain draws closer, arriving at the base camp beneath its northern face. The program aims to reach the camp before sunset, allowing a view of the evening light on Everest when weather conditions permit.
 

Notes: During the winter season, when the Everest Base Camp tented lodges are closed, we will relocate accommodations to the nearest village to Everest, Basong Village.

Walk near the base camp in the early morning, then visit Rongbuk Monastery, described as the world's highest-altitude monastery and used as a filming location in the movie 2012. The monastery also provides a vantage point for both the natural and cultural landscapes around Everest.
 

After leaving Everest, continue to the Xilin View point for views toward Everest's eastern slope and Mount Lhotse. Pass through the historic town of Sakya on the return journey to Shigatse.
 

Arrive in Shigatse in the evening and join the guide for a traditional Tibetan dinner, celebrating the completion of the Everest journey with local dishes, songs and dances.

On the final morning of the return journey to Lhasa, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the largest monastery in western Tibet and the traditional seat of the Panchen Lamas. Its complex contains the world's largest gilded bronze statue, stupas of the Panchen Lamas and Buddhist murals.

Afterwards, return to Lhasa through the Yarlung Tsangpo River Valley. Depending on local circumstances, the return journey may instead be arranged by train.

Your tour guide will inform you when and where to get on our shuttle bus to Lhasa airport or train station in advance. Then you can choose to suitable time to get on the shuttle bus according to your flight or train departure time. Your Lhasa experience tour ends by group transferring to airport or railway station for departure.
