China Star Level Hotels

Star-level hotels in China are divided into five ranks based on standards issued by the China National Tourism Administration.

One or Two Star Hotels in China

One or two-star hotels are economical and clean, but may have very limited English speaking staff. they must have at least twenty guests rooms, most with private bath and offer breakfast or other meal.

Generally, 1 – 2 star hotels will be China local-brand chain hotels

When accommodating in this kind of hotel, you may meet some annoyance. So you would be wise to take notice of the following possibilities before you book a local-run hotel in mainland China.

Some of the staff can speak English while other may be able to speak Chinese only
The breakfasts served in these hotels are mostly Chinese style which may cause westerners loose appetite when getting up in the morning.
Sometimes you may receive anonymous calls at midnight in some of the hotels.
Sometimes you should tolerate the hot temperature in the summer days because air-conditions may not work frequently.

Three Star Hotel

Three-star hotels in mainland China may divided into two situations:

► Local 3 star hotel: this kind hotel may be not recommended to foreign travelers because most of them are native-oriented. That means the equipment and service quality may be not as same as the typical international standards.

Five Star Hotels

Five-star hotels in mainland China will be better choices for foreigners travel in China. Hotels with this levels are luxury properties with spacious, soundproof rooms, large lobbies, health clubs, business centers, 24-hour room service and excellent Chinese and English food to serve. Especially those five-star hotels in China have standards that nearly match similarly rated properties in large European and American cities.

► About hotel star in remote area: The above hotel star is just listed for your reference. Sometimes the same brand hotel in different city may be in a lower or a higher level because of its practical facilities equipment.

While in some remote cities or some places that tourism has not developed very well, hotels with four or five-star may be also not as well as the same standard one in the big cities. Accommodations are more luxurious in the large and thriving cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Xian and Shenzhen. Some times you could receive some useful advices from our travel advisors when you consider about which hotel should be booked.

► About similar star in China: In China, there are some hotels which is almost in the same star hotel level, but some recreational facilities such as indoor constant-temperature swimming pool, gymnasia, billiard room are no equipped. Because of these lacks, we will regard this kind of hotel as “Similar Star Hotel”. For example, a hotel is decorated according to 5 star hotel standard but lack of a swimming pool only, so this hotel may be ranked as a similar 5 star hotel in China.
