China Visa-Free Travel from Singapore: 2026 Planning Guide

Since February 9, 2024, Singapore ordinary-passport holders may enter mainland China without a visa for a stay of up to 30 days under the reciprocal agreement. The arrangement does not authorize employment, long-term study, journalism or other prior-approval activity, and admission remains subject to border inspection. Reviewed August 29, 2026.

How the 30-Day Stay Is Counted

The official current guidance calculates the visa-free stay from the day after entry for 30 calendar days. Treat the border record and official rule as controlling, leave departure margin, and do not use a schedule built to the final hour.

Documents to Prepare for Visa-Free Entry

Eligible ordinary passport

  • Use the Singapore ordinary passport that is valid for the intended trip; other travel, temporary or emergency documents are not automatically covered.
  • Consistent route evidence
  • Carry onward or return transport, first accommodation, local contact and reservations consistent with the declared purpose. A booking does not guarantee entry.

Arrival and identity checks: complete the current arrival declaration when required and use the same full passport identity for airline, hotel and rail bookings. Keep redacted backups separate from the original.

When a Visa or Stay Permit Is Required

Obtain the appropriate visa before departure for a planned stay longer than 30 days or for work, study, residence, media activity or another purpose needing prior approval.

A stay permit after visa-free entry is for appropriate and sufficient unforeseen reasons decided by the local exit-entry authority; it should never be the planned substitute for the correct visa.

Chinese Visa Application Workflow in Singapore

1. Confirm the category

  • Match the real main purpose to the current mission checklist. Tourism, business, family, study and work use different supporting evidence.
  • 2. Complete the current online form
  • Use only the application portal linked by the Chinese Embassy or its designated service center, and copy names exactly from the passport.
  • 3. Prepare identity evidence

Provide the original passport, relevant copies, compliant photo and prior Chinese passport or visa evidence when applicable.

4. Prepare purpose evidence

  • Tourism may require transport, accommodation or a qualifying invitation. Other categories require their own notices, letters or permits.
  • 5. Follow submission instructions
  • Verify appointment, personal appearance, fingerprints, payment and collection for this applicant. A historic exemption or processing time is not a current instruction.

6. Check the issued visa: inspect passport number, identity, entries, validity and duration immediately. Ask the issuing office about any discrepancy before travel.

Application Timing

Start before restricted bookings, but follow the mission's current filing window. Online review, holidays, supplementary evidence and administrative checks mean that an estimated processing time is not a guarantee.

Processing Time and Decision Control

Online preparation and document review are separate from the formal processing estimate.

Regular service is estimated only after formal acceptance of a complete case.

Express service exists only when the center accepts the case and does not guarantee approval.

Supplementary evidence, interview, holidays or administrative review can extend the timeline.

Track the case through the official receipt and portal, then inspect the passport immediately on collection.

The legacy SGD table is removed because consular fees, center fees and service levels change. Verify the dated schedule at the official center.

Appointments and Personal Appearance

Appointment, walk-in, fingerprint and representative rules can change. Follow the live portal and the instruction issued for the case; an agent cannot supply fingerprints, answer an interview or guarantee approval for the applicant.

Build a 7-, 10- or 14-Day Route

Seven days supports Beijing plus one nearby region. Ten days can connect Beijing–Xi'an–Shanghai. Fourteen days can add one coherent extension such as Chengdu, not several distant cities. Keep the last night within reliable reach of the international gateway.

Choose Dates by Region

Avoid one national “best month.” Compare heat, rain, typhoon, winter and altitude conditions by destination, and check public holidays before booking rail. Southeast and southwest weather may disrupt flights even when northern China is clear.

Where to Go from Singapore

First-time history: Beijing and Xi'an. Food and mountain scenery: Chengdu with a carefully timed Chongqing extension. Lower-transfer east China: Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou. Choose by travel time and purpose, not only by an attraction list.
