Rail can connect several important Yunnan bases, but a useful train plan is more than a list of city names. The exact service, station, identity document and transfers at both ends determine whether it works for your trip. High-speed is also a broad travel label: judge the actual train and total journey rather than assuming every Yunnan rail leg has the same speed or facilities.

Kunming Railway Station, 昆明站, and Kunming South, 昆明南站, are different places. Keep the complete station name from the booking and show it to the driver. Dali station serves the modern city area; Dali Old Town and Erhai properties require another journey. Lijiang station and the Dayan or Shuhe hotel districts are also separate locations.
Save the hotel's Chinese name, full address and entrance instructions. The language guide explains why a short translated name can be ambiguous when arranging a pickup.
Agree the route and hotel nights, then inspect the actual train options. Enter traveler details exactly as required by the booking provider and the identity document used for travel. Check the seat class, train date, stations, change terms and how confirmation is delivered. A request for tickets is not the same as a confirmed booking.
Keep the confirmed train details and the original travel document accessible. Ask how travelers using your document type should enter and board at that station; the applicable assistance process may differ from a familiar home-country railway. Arrange pickup early enough for the station approach, required checks and reaching the platform without rushing.
Check the train number and platform information rather than following passengers who merely appear to be traveling to the same city. Keep bags together and allow time to reach the exit and the agreed meeting point after arrival. The driver should have the actual train details and know what happens if it is delayed.
Check the current luggage rules for the service and think about what you can manage through a station. A large case, stroller and several smaller bags may change the choice of local assistance or transport. Do not assume a rail ticket includes a porter or that the driver can accompany you to the platform.
For children or travelers who need support with steps and distances, ask about the specific station journey and assistance arrangements. Keep the group's documents and confirmations organized without placing every essential item in a bag that another person carries away.
