How to Get to Ming Tombs from Beijing Downtown

Where is Ming Tombs

The Ming Tombs is located at the foot of Tianshou Mountain in Beijing Changping District, close to Baling Great Wall, about 50 kilometers away from Beijing downtown, which is a distance of about one hour driving. Ming Tombs is composed of a complex of mausoleums for 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and it is so large that there is a certain distance from one mausoleum to another. How to Get to Ming Tombs

To get to different tombs or different entrances, visitors should take different buses to get there. Normally, only Dingling, Zhaoling and Changling Tomb, as well as the Sacred Way are opened to visitors and there are two bus stops, Changling stop and Dingling stop for people to get to the Ming Tomb. Here lists several transportation options for your reference. There is no subway straight to the Ming Tombs, but you have three other transport ways, public bus, taxi and private car charter with driver.

By Bus

Option 1(highly recommended): you could take No. 872 pubic bus at Desheng men (德胜门) bus stop, and get off at Dingling(定陵) or Changling(长陵). No.872 pubic bus shuttles from Desheng men to Changling, starts at 09:15, then every ten minutes and ends at 16: 15, while No. 872 pubic bus transports from Changling to Desheng men, starts at 08:00, then every ten minutes and ends at 15: 00. Its full ticket fare is 10 yuan.
Option 2: you may take No. 919 pubic bus at Desheng men bus stop, and get off at Shuitun bus stop, then transfer to No. 878 public bus, ant get off at the terminal stop, Dingling. No. 919 public bus from the first stop going to Deshengmen, starts at 05:00, and ends at 19:40, and from Dingling to the first stop, it starts at 05:45,and ends at 19:00. Its full ticket fare is 17 yuan, but your ticket fare is according to your travelling distance. No. 878 public bus from the first stop going to Dinging, ends at 19:40, and it shuttling from Dingling to the first stop, ends at 18:00. Its full ticket fare is 7 yuan.
Option 3: take No. 885 or No. 883 public bus at Desheng men west bus stop,and get off at Shuitun bus stop, then transfer to No. 878 or No. 872 public bus, ant get off at Dingling. No. 885 public bus from Deshengmen west going to the terminal stop, starts at 06:40, and ends at 21:40, and from the last stop to Deshengmen west, it starts at 05:30, and ends at 20:30. Its full ticket fare is 9 yuan. No. 883 public bus from Deshengmen west going to the terminal stop, starts at 06:40, and ends at 21:00, and from the last stop to Deshengmen west, it starts at 05:20,and ends at 19:00. Its full ticket fare is 6 yuan.

Option 1 is the most convenient, fastest and cheapest way to get to the Ming Tombs, and it takes only one hour. Using it, you don't have to transfer and would save you time for waiting a bus.

Subway+Bus

First take subway Changping line, get off at Nanshao station, then transfer to Changping No. 67 public bus, and get off at Changling, Dingling or Zhaoling. Subway Changping line works from 05:50-23:35. No. 67 public bus from Nanshao to Zhaoling starts at 06:30, then every 10-15 minutes, and ends at 19:50. From Zhaoling to Nanshao, it starts at 05:40, then every 10-15 minutes, and ends at 19:00.

By Taxi

From downtown to the Ming Tombs, it will cost much taxi fare due to a distance of about 50 kilometers. If you are in a group of 3 or 4, that will be much better for you to take a taxi.

Subway+Taxi

In the case you want to save time and money, you may take subway of Changping line and get off at the Ming Tombs station. Then you take a taxi to the Ming Tombs.

Car Rental

You can rent a car with a driver, thus you can get to the Ming Tombs in a fast way. For this, you could buy transfer service from travel agency like YunSky Travel, or you could book a private car by Didi Chuxing which is like Uber in foreign countries.
