Indonesian ordinary-passport holders generally need a visa for a normal mainland China holiday. Since June 12, 2025, eligible Indonesians may instead use the 240-hour visa-free transit scheme only for a confirmed third-country or region itinerary through designated ports and permitted areas. Hainan and approved ASEAN group travel to Guilin are separate limited programs. Reviewed August 29, 2026.
Apply for the category matching the real main purpose unless a current, clearly applicable exemption covers the entire route. A return Indonesia–China–Indonesia holiday is not 240-hour third-country transit, and a travel company cannot convert it into one.
Ordinary-passport applications are handled through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center network designated for the applicant's consular area, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan and Denpasar. Use the mission-linked center finder because addresses, jurisdiction and submission methods can change.
Hong Kong and Macao have separate entry systems. Check their official immigration rules rather than selecting a mainland visa category or center based on this article.
The current centers advise beginning the online process at least about 30 days before travel. Start earlier if a passport must be renewed, but do not rely on an old three-month rule or buy restricted tickets until the current filing window and document review are confirmed.
1. Choose the visa category by purpose
Tourism generally uses an L visa. Business, family visit, study, employment and journalism use different categories and evidence; do not select tourism to simplify a work or study visit.
2. Prepare identity documents

After online approval, follow the issued Visa Application Certificate or center notice for passport, originals, biometrics, fees and collection or eligible postal service. The service center receives documents; the Chinese mission decides the case.
6. Inspect the issued visa: check name, passport number, entries, validity and duration before departure. Then use the China transportation guide to reserve rail or domestic travel with exactly the same passport identity.
Do not assume every applicant must book the same appointment or appear in person. Online verification, fingerprint exemptions and postal or value-added services differ by center and policy period. Follow the instruction issued for the individual case, not an older screenshot.
Legacy fee figures become misleading when exchange rates, nationality rules, service levels or center charges change. Confirm the official total after online review and before payment.

A complete regular case may be expected in several working days after formal acceptance, but online review is separate and supplementary evidence, interviews, holidays or administrative checks can extend the timeline. Keep flights and hotels flexible until the passport is returned and checked.
Enter Before
This is the last date on which an entry may be made, not the date by which the traveler must leave.
Entries
This is the number of permitted entries before validity or entries run out. Re-entry from Hong Kong or Macao uses another entry unless a separate valid exemption applies.
Duration of Each Stay
This limits the stay after each entry. Count exactly as the visa and border record require, and never assume unused validity adds extra days.
A visa permits travel to seek entry; border inspection makes the final admission decision. Carry a route, accommodation, contact and onward evidence consistent with the application.

Use the China travel essentials to prepare connectivity, hotel registration, payment and behavior. Keep the first itinerary realistic: two or three regions with transfer buffers are more reliable than a rapid list of distant cities.
Yun Sky Travel can align booked hotels, transport and a day-by-day route with the stated trip, while the embassy, consulate and border authorities control the visa and admission. Prepare a cash-and-card backup with the traveler payment guide; never send passwords or unredacted bank records to a tour planner.
