Adding Shangri-La turns the Kunming-Dali-Lijiang corridor into a journey with a higher overnight setting and a different cultural landscape. It deserves a clear purpose: Tibetan cultural interests, a selected landscape outing or more time in the northwest. The extra place also changes the departure gateway and the daily demands. Decide whether those changes improve your trip before adding it to a map.

Use the Yunnan altitude comparison alongside the route map. A mountain near Lijiang, a gorge viewpoint and a Shangri-La hotel are different locations; one general altitude number cannot describe the whole itinerary.
For nine nights, investigate one in Kunming, three in Dali, three in Lijiang and two in Shangri-La, as shown in the ten-day example. For a longer stay, add time where it serves a concrete interest: a full Kunming day, another Dali lake day, Lijiang interpretation or a second full Shangri-La day.

Rail and road serve different needs. Check the dated train options and the transfers at both ends for a direct connection. Choose a road journey when a specific stop matters, luggage handling is easier for the party or the selected accommodations make that arrangement useful. Read the dedicated transfer guide.
Tiger Leaping Gorge must be described precisely if it is included. A main viewpoint visit is not the same as an overnight high-trail trek. Write the selected entrance, walking and onward pickup into the itinerary. A train ticket to Shangri-La does not include access to the gorge, and a road transfer is not automatically a guided gorge tour.
Choose a monastery visit and a manageable town walk with suitable interpretation. Ask about steps, surfaces, transport within the site and the exact visitor arrangements. Give religious spaces their own etiquette and follow current visitor boundaries.
Choose the particular lake, park or countryside route rather than a generic promise of Tibetan scenery. Weather, season, actual access and walking determine the experience. Keep a cultural alternative that the group wants to do if the outdoor plan changes.

Compare leaving through Shangri-La, returning to Lijiang or returning to Kunming. Count every local transfer, flight or train connection and possible final overnight. If a separate international booking is involved, leave a buffer appropriate to the actual arrangement and consequences of a missed connection. A route that looks one-way on a map may still need a return leg in practice.
