5 Beautiful Peak-Forest Landscapes in China

“Peak forest” is a visual description, not one geological category. Yangshuo, Wanfenglin and Luoping are shaped largely by karst processes in soluble rock; Wulingyuan is famous for thousands of narrow quartz-sandstone pillars; Sanqingshan is a granite mountain landscape. They can all produce layered silhouettes, mist and dramatic viewpoints, yet the visitor experience ranges from cycling through inhabited countryside to using park shuttles, cableways and mountain stairs. This guide keeps the original five destinations and image positions while explaining those differences. Choose by route as well as appearance: Guilin–Yangshuo, Xingyi, Zhangjiajie, Shangrao–Sanqingshan and Luoping belong to separate regional journeys and should not be compressed into one rushed trip. Continue with the Zhangjiajie destination guide when this landscape fits the wider route.
