Beautiful Glaciers in China: 5 High-Mountain Regions
Rongbuk Glacier lies in the Everest region on the north side of the Himalayas in Tibet. It belongs in an authorized Everest route, not a standalone casual excursion. Extreme altitude, cold, wind and cloud demand staged acclimatization. Plan through current authorized Tibet arrangements. Road, permit and visitor-zone rules are changeable; a mountain view is never guaranteed. Continue planning with the Tibet travel planning. Mount Everest
Tomur Peak Glacier Region, Xinjiang
The Tomur Peak region in the Tianshan contains extensive high-mountain glaciers near China's western frontier. It is better understood as specialist mountain geography than a normal mass-tourism stop. Remote access, severe weather, altitude and border-area controls are major constraints. Only use a legal, currently operating route with appropriate local support. Do not advertise independent glacier trekking or fixed access without current confirmation.

Hailuogou Glacier, Sichuan
Hailuogou Glacier Hailuogou on the eastern side of Mount Gongga has long been one of the more established glacier-viewing scenic areas in China. It is the most practical choice in this list for travelers already following a western Sichuan route. Earthquake recovery, landslides, rain, snow and maintenance can change which sectors operate. Check the current scenic-area notice before departing from Chengdu or Kangding. Historical cableway and trail descriptions may not reflect present operations. Midui Glacier, Tibet
Best Season: all year
Midui glaciers Midui Glacier lies along the southeastern Tibet corridor near Bomi, where forested valleys meet high ice-covered peaks. It fits a longer Nyingchi–Bomi journey rather than a quick Lhasa day trip. Monsoon rain, landslides, snow and altitude affect the road and village approach. Use authorized Tibet arrangements and allow weather flexibility. Protect local farmland and do not promise close contact with the glacier tongue.
Telamukanli Glacier, Xinjiang
Best Season: all year
Telamukanli glacier The glacier commonly rendered as Telamukanli is associated with the remote Karakoram high mountains of Xinjiang. Treat it as expedition context unless a current lawful visitor route is explicitly confirmed. Distance, border controls, extreme altitude and severe weather make access complex. Use specialist official guidance rather than general tourism directions. Transliterations and access descriptions vary, so do not invent a precise tourist gateway or routine visiting season.

Mengke Glacier Region, Gansu
The Laohugou or Mengke glacier region lies in the Qilian Mountains of western Gansu. It may interest experienced travelers already following a Hexi Corridor nature route, but it is not an effortless roadside attraction. High altitude, cold, wind, road conditions and local controls matter. Connect the geography with the wider Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and verify current lawful access. Use established viewpoints and do not enter research or protected zones without permission. Continue planning with the China climate guide.
